East Japan Railway Company operates as a passenger railway company in Japan. The company operates through three segments: Transportation, Retail & Services, and Real Estate & Hotels. The Transportation segment offers passenger transportation services primarily through Shinkansen network; and conventional lines in the Kanto area and other networks. This segment is also involved in the provision of travel agency and cleaning services; station operations; facilities maintenance activities; and railcar manufacturing and maintenance operations. The Retail & Services segment engages in the retail sales and restaurant operations; wholesale and truck transportation businesses; and advertising and publicity activities. The Real Estate & Hotels segment operates shopping centers and hotels; and leases office buildings and other properties. The company is also involved in the credit card, information processing, and other businesses. As of March 31, 2019, it operated 69 railway lines, as well as 1,655 railway stations and 7,401.7 kilometers of railway network; 169 shopping centers covering a total floor space of 2,380,000 m2; office buildings with a total leased floor space of 380,000 m2; and 12 metropolitan hotels and 25 hotel Mets with a total of 7,420 guest rooms.
